Elizabeth Olsen is Hollywood’s newest It Girl — and for good reason! Over the past few years we’ve watched the 24-year-old younger sister of Mary-Kate and Ashley develop into a beautiful, stylish and talented actress. From her role starring in the psychological thriller Silent House to her eerie character in Martha Marcy May Marlene we just can’t get enough of the Los Angeles native.
Which is why we were nearly jumping for joy when we learned of Olsen’s new gig playing the sexy Scarlet Witch in The Avengers: Age of Ultron. There was speculation for some time that the honey-haired starlet would portray the evil role of the Scarlet Witch in Joss Whedon’s sequel. But it wasn’t until one of her co-stars spilled the beans about her latest role that we started the countdown for the Marvel movie.
“I don’t think we begin shooting before March of next year,” Samuel L. Jackson, who plays Nick Fury, told The Wall Street Journal. ”I know we’re shooting in London, that James Spader is Ultron and going to be the bad guy, and that we added Ms. [Elizabeth] Olsen, but I don’t know what she’s doing, if she’s on the inside or the outside. I haven’t seen a script.”
Elizabeth OlsenWill Elizabeth Olsen make a good Scarlet Witch?
So who exactly is the Scarlet Witch? According to reports she was a character created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and has a pretty interesting family tree. Olsen’s character is the daughter of Magneto, the twin sister of Quicksilver, and the paternal half-sister of Polaris. And just like her brothers she has mutant powers that allow her to manipulate probability through “hexes.
Whedon confessed that Scarlet Witch might just be his favorite Marvel character. "I've got these two characters [in the first draft of my script] — my favorite characters in the comic book, a brother-sister act," Whedon said at the "Iron Man 3" premiere. "They're in the movie, that's exciting."
